Another super easy “make it yourself” dish. We use this bad boy to drizzle over broccoli, pasta or … well, cheese is good on ANYTHING really!
Kids love it… and it takes about 5 minutes to make.
Seriously. FIVE minutes!
Simmer yourself up about 1/4c of butter or margarine in a saucepan.
Toss in about 1/2 a cup of flour (less if you want it thinner) This will make us a “rue”
Basically a “thickening paste” (sounds pretty doesn’t it)
Mix this with a whisk until combined into a paste. Toss in 1.5 cups of milk (or cream if you like to go all the way) Again, depending on the thickness you are going for, this will vary. Add more milk for a thinner sauce
Prep the cheese. I go a little nutso on cheese (it IS a cheese sauce after all) and toss in about 1.5cups. Use any cheese you like, go all crazy and make it a mix up! A bit o’ this, a bit o’ that. Any meltable cheese works.
Add it into your combined sauce, reduce the heat to low and gentle stir.
Stir gently until fully combined. Keep heat low, do not boil. Flavour with salt, pepper, cayenne, nutmeg… whatever you like, and whatever will enhance the flavour you are going for.
Eventually you will end up with this sexy beast of a sauce. Creamy, and so easy to drizzle over your dinner… or whatever else turns your crank!
Note: this is not a low fat recipe, or gluten free.. this is full blown, deliciously cheesy, belly filling feast! Enjoy!
